Toyota Racing: A Weekend of Winning

NASCAR©: KYLE CAPTURES TWO FIRST-PLACE TROPHIES

It was Kyle Busch’s birthday Saturday night at Richmond International Raceway and the 24-year-old driver gave himself a pair of presents -- taking home two trophies from the Virginia short track. The Las Vegas-native finished first in Saturday night’s NASCAR© Sprint Cup Series™ (NSCS) race at the .75-mile oval, after recording a victory in Friday evening’s NASCAR© Nationwide Series™ race.

Busch started 14th on Saturday night and led the field three times for 53 laps in his Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) No. 18 Combos Toyota Camry. He took the lead on lap 352 (of 400) and held off Tony Stewart (second) and Jeff Burton (third) en route to his third NSCS victory of the season, and Toyota’s 13th NSCS victory.

Busch became only the second Cup driver in history to win a race on his birthday. Former NASCAR© driver Cale Yarborough accomplished that feat twice -- winning a Cup race on his birthday in both 1977 and 1983.

NHRA: DOUBLE SUCCESS IN ST. LOUIS FOR WORSHAM AND BROWN

Worsham took the Funny Car final on a holeshot over the class points leader, Ron Capps. Worsham out reacted Capps for a 4.13-second to 4.12 decision.

Brown outran Brandon Bernstein in a great Top Fuel final, resetting the overall low elapsed time that he had just established in the semifinals (3.854) with an even better 3.850 e.t. Bernstein's 3.88 kept him in it until the last few hundred feet, where Brown pulled away with the fifth-fastest speed in 1,000-foot drag racing history – 318.02 mph.
