Toyota Racing: Denny Hamlin Shooting For Five Pocono Wins

Hey Toyota Racing Fans,

BRICKYARD LOOK BACK: Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) teammates Kyle Busch (eighth) and Joey Logano (ninth) recorded top-10 finishes for Toyota on Sunday at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Busch recovered from an opening lap incident that damaged his No. 18 Camry to earn his fourth top-10 result in six NASCAR® Sprint Cup Series™ (NSCS) races at the historic 2.5-mile speedway.

DENNY DELIGHTS: Hamlin has more NSCS wins at Pocono Raceway than any other track on the circuit. His first two Pocono victories came in his rookie season in 2006 when Hamlin swept the pole and race wins in both NSCS races at the triangular track. The 29-year-old has earned two more victories at Pocono behind the wheel of a Toyota race car, including last August when he led 91 (of 200) laps and earlier this year when he led 88 (of 204) laps to bring home his fourth victory in June's race.

HAWKEYE STATE DATE: The NNS returns to Iowa Speedway where competitors will race at the 0.875-mile oval located outside of Des Moines. Last year's inaugural race saw four Camry drivers earn top-10 results. Busch led 84 (of 250) laps and finished second followed by Jason Leffler (third), Kelly Bires (fifth) and Scott Lagasse Jr. (ninth) in the top-10. Busch will travel between Long Pond, Pennsylvania., and Newton, Iowa, this weekend where he has a NASCAR® Camping World Series™ East/West win from May 2009.

TRUCK TIME IN POCONO: This will be the first trip to Pocono for the NCWTS, but two Toyota drivers have found success previously in Pennsylvania. Bodine, driver of the No. 30 Germain Racing Tundra, won a Cup pole at Pocono in 2001. In addition, Bodine was victorious at Nazareth (PA) Speedway, with a NNS win in 1992. Tundra driver Justin Lofton won the ARCA race from the pole at Pocono last August, leading 65 (of 82) laps. He also started from the pole in the June 2009 event and finished second.

WEEKEND RACE SCHEDULE:

  • NASCAR® Sprint Cup Series™ @ Pocono Raceway, Sunday, August 1 @ 1:00 PM (ET), ESPN
  • NASCAR® Nationwide Series™ @ Iowa Speedway, Saturday, July 31 @ 7:30 PM (ET), ESPN2
  • NASCAR® Camping World Truck Series™ @ Pocono Raceway, Saturday, July 31 @ 1 PM (ET), SPEED

See you in Victory Lane!

Toyota Racing: Brickyard for NASCAR and Western Swing End for NHRA

Hey Toyota Racing Fans,

Weekend Rewind:

DIXON PUTS TOYOTA INTO SONOMA WINNER'S CIRCLE: Larry Dixon's magical season continued Sunday as he defeated arch-rival Tony Schumacher in the Top Fuel final to record his eighth win of the season in Sunday's NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series' Fram Autolite Nationals at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, California.

NASCAR® WEEKEND WRAP: Four Camry drivers earned top-10 finishes in Saturday night's NASCAR® Nationwide Series™ (NNS) race at Gateway International Raceway near St. Louis -- Reed Sorenson (second), Trevor Bayne (third), Steve Wallace (fifth) and Brian Scott (sixth). It was Bayne's best-career NNS finish, the best result of the season for Wallace and equaled Sorenson's best effort of 2010 (also finished second at Nashville in April). Five Tundras also scored top-10 finishes in Saturday afternoon's NASCAR® Camping World Truck Series™ (NCWTS) event at the 1.25-mile Illinois oval -- Todd Bodine (fourth), Timothy Peters (sixth), Aric Almirola (eighth), Brian Ickler (ninth) and Mike Skinner (10th). Three Toyota drivers recorded top-10 finishes in Sunday's NASCAR K&N Pro Series West (NKNPSW) race at Portland International Raceway -- Eric Holmes (second), Paulie Harraka (third) and Tom Klauer (10th).

Moving Forward:

INDIANA BOUND: The NASCAR® Sprint Cup Series™(NSCS) heads to the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway for Sunday's Brickyard 400 following the second-to-last off-weekend of the season. Toyota drivers posted a pair of top-10 finishes at the 2.5-mile speedway in 2009 -- Brian Vickers (fifth) and David Reutimann (eighth). Denny Hamlin has the best finish of any Toyota driver at Indy, recording a third-place result in 2008. Since joining the series in 2007, Toyota has won races at 18 of 22 Sprint Cup Series venues. Will this be the year a Camry driver takes home a first-place trophy from the Brickyard?

UNDER THE LIGHTS: The Nationwide Series and Truck Series will compete in a pair of night races at O'Reilly Raceway Park (ORP) near Indianapolis this weekend. Toyota owns two NNS victories at the .686-mile short track -- including the manufacturer's first-ever series win by Jason Leffler in 2007, which came in Toyota's 22nd NNS race. Camry driver Kyle Busch dominated the event at ORP in 2008, leading 197 (of 200) laps en route to victory lane.

In the NHRA:

DIXON LOOKS TO CLINCH TOP SPOT IN COUNTDOWN:  With a 211-point championship lead heading into this weekend's Mile-High Nationals, Larry Dixon can clinch the number one spot in the NHRA Countdown to the Championship playoffs by simply advancing to the second round.

COUNTDOWN ROLL-CALL: With two races remaining in the “regular season,” two Toyota-sponsored drivers – Larry Dixon and Antron Brown - have already clinched their spots in the Countdown to the Championship playoffs. Those ranks should grow this weekend as Morgan Lucas Racing teammates Shawn Langdon and Morgan Lucas should wrap up playoff berths.

What to Watch:

  • NASCAR® Camping World Truck Series™ @ O'Reilly Raceway Park, Friday, July 23 @ 8 PM (ET), SPEED
  • NASCAR® Nationwide Series™ @ O'Reilly Raceway Park, Saturday, July 24 @ 8 PM (ET), ESPN
  • NASCAR® Sprint Cup Series™ @ Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Sunday, July 25 @ 1 PM (ET), ESPN
  • NHRA Mile-High Nationals @ Bandimere Speedway, Sunday, July 25 @ 7:00 PM (ET) (Eliminations)

Toyota Racing: July Fast Forward. The NHRA Western Swing!

Hey Toyota Racing Fans,

The month of July brings with it the annual three-race NHRA Western Swing, which was swept in 2009 by Toyota-supported Top Fuel racer Antron Brown. Can he do it again in 2010? Other highlights of the upcoming month are the annual NASCAR trip to Indy, TORC off-road racing in the Upper Midwest and a USAC season in full swing.

For all the latest news in the world of Toyota Racing, be sure to bookmark ToyotaRacing.com!

COMING UP ... THE NHRA WESTERN SWING AND THE BRICKYARD 400!
An NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series tradition is the Western Swing, consisting of the NHRA Northwest Nationals at Pacific Raceways near Seattle on the weekend of July 9-11, the Fram Autolite NHRA Nationals at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, California, on July 16-18 and the Mile-High NHRA Nationals at Bandimere Speedway near Denver, Colorado, on July 23-25.

Last year, Toyota-supported racer Antron Brown became the seventh driver in NHRA history to win all three races of the Western Swing. You can relive Antron's incredible sweep here.

Will Brown be able to duplicate his performance in 2010? Time will tell, but Toyota Racing caught up with him recently to get his thoughts on his season to date and his reflections on his historic sweep. You can read all about it here.

The month of July also brings another of NASCAR®'s crown jewels, as the Sprint Cup Series™ heads to Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the Brickyard 400 on July 25. Will this finally be the year that a Toyota driver and team will finally kiss those famous bricks?

Kyle Busch was among the drivers who participated in a tire test at the legendary 2.5-mile Indiana oval in April and thinks we're in for a great race. Of course, he's always a contender for the win in any race he enters. Busch's Joe Gibbs Racing teammate, Denny Hamlin, has been another consistent front-runner in Sprint Cup competition and is another threat to win the prestigious Brickyard 400.

Also on the NASCAR calendar for the month of July is the Sprint Cup race at Chicagoland Speedway on July 10; Nationwide Series™ races at Chicagoland on July 9, Gateway International Raceway on July 17, O'Reilly Raceway Park on July 24 and Iowa Speedway on July 31; and things heat up dramatically for the Camping World Truck Series™ this month with races at Iowa on July 11, Gateway on July 16, ORP on July 23 and Pocono Raceway on July 31.

Other dates for Toyota Racing fans to circle on their calendars are the weekend of July 10 and 11, when the TRAXXAS TORC Off-Road Championship Series visits Bark River International Raceway in Bark River, Michigan, and July 23-24, when TORC heads to Oshkosh Speedzone in Oshkosh, Wisconsin; and a whole slew of USAC Silver Crown, Sprint Car and Midget races in Indiana throughout the month.

ONE TO WATCH: RICK HUSEMAN

The TORC Off-Road Championship enters the heart of its season this month, and leading the Pro 4x4 point standings in his Toyota Tundra is Rick Huseman.

Huseman opened the season at Crandon, Wisconsin, last month with a second-place run and a victory on the doubleheader race weekend. He is also the subject of a new ToyotaRacing.com feature, which you can find right here.

ONE TO WATCH 2: BRIAN TYLER

Brian Tyler closes in on Silver Crown record.

Brian Tyler has been a top USAC Silver Crown Series racer, with championships in 1996 and 1997 and 16 career victories in Silver Crown competition. He also brought Toyota its first Silver Crown victory in 2008 on the dirt at DuQuoin, Illinois.

Tyler has made 68 consecutive Silver Crown starts and is closing in on Jack Hewitt's record for most career starts in the series. It's been a long and impressive career for Tyler, who looks back on his experiences and accomplishments here.

ON THE WEB: SPONSAFIER 2
On the heels of the wildly popular inaugural "Sponsafy Your Ride" Contest, which was won by Texan Fay Knape with her "Praying for Karson" design, Toyota Racing has unveiled Sponsafier 2.

This time, the Grand Prize winner will be on hand to see his or her design showcased at the NASCAR® Sprint Cup Series™ Kobalt Tools 500 at Phoenix International Raceway on the weekend of November 7. Click here to learn more about Sponsafier 2 and to create your entry!

Also, click here for a video feature on Knape, whose entry was chosen from more than 84,000 entries!

REWIND ... BUSCH SETS NATIONWIDE RECORD, HAMLIN TAKES A PAIR OF WINS AND AN ALL-TOYOTA NHRA TOP FUEL FINAL

Kyle Busch has been a force to be reckoned with for the last several years in the NASCAR® Nationwide Series™ -- as his 2009 title will attest -- and last month he etched his name into the series record books by becoming the series' all-time laps led record holder ahead of Mark Martin. Busch accomplished the feat in a dominating performance on his way to victory in the No. 18 Z-Line Designs Toyota Camry at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on June 26. Read all about it here.

Denny Hamlin, meanwhile, added two more victories to his 2010 NASCAR® Sprint Cup Series™ win total last month in back-to-back fashion in the No. 11 FedEx Toyota at Pocono Raceway and Michigan International Speedway. Check out video highlights from the Pocono victory here and the Michigan highlight video is available here.

Toyota-supported NHRA Top Fuel racer Larry Dixon is in the midst of a dream season thus far in 2010. Through the end of last month, Dixon had won seven races, including two victories in all-Toyota finals between him and Antron Brown at Englishtown, New Jersey, and Norwalk, Connecticut.

Check out the report on the Norwalk final here and click here to relive the Englishtown final.

Also, be sure to check out the Toyota Racing NHRA mid-season video update, which you can find right here.
