Toyota Racing: Reutimann Wins Coca-Cola 600 for First Cup Win

Toyota driver David Reutimann won his first career NASCAR® Sprint Cup Series™ (NSCS) on the same day the Toyota Camry Hybrid Pace-Car made its debut, highlighting a rain-soaked weekend at Lowe's Motor Speedway that saw both the NSCS and NASCAR® Nationwide Series™ (NNS) races shortened due to weather.

In Monday's postponed NSCS race, Reutimann benefited from a pit road gamble as crew chief Rodney Childers kept the Michael Waltrip Racing (MWR) No. 00 Aaron's Dream Machine on the track while others pitted, before persistent rain forced NASCAR® to call the race after 227 of 400 laps were complete.

"It certainly wasn't the prettiest win, but somebody has to win these things," said Reutimann, following the race. "Rodney (Childers, crew chief) made a great call and told me to stay out. We just stayed out and took a gamble. When you envision yourself winning your first Sprint Cup race, you envision it a little bit different. It’s so hard to win these deals that we’ll just take them any way we can get them."

It is MWR's first victory as an organization since joining NSCS competition at the beginning of 2007, and Reutimann's third career NASCAR® victory across all three national series. He won a NASCAR® Nationwide Series™ (NNS) race at Memphis in 2007 and had a NASCAR Camping World Truck Series™ (NCWTS) win at Nashville in 2005.
