Toyota Racing Weekend Recap

SKINNER CLAIMS RAIN-SHORTENED TRUCK SERIES WIN AT KANSAS

Mike Skinner was victorious despite rain delays in Monday’s NASCAR© Camping World Truck Series™ (NCWTS) race at Kansas Speedway. He led a race-high 67 of 132 laps before persistent rain forced officials to call an end to the event 35 laps early.

Skinner took the lead for good from Stacy Compton on a lap 119 restart, after crew chief Eric Phillips’ call to take only a splash of fuel put the No. 5 Toyota ahead of the front-runners on the 1.5-mile oval. Shortly after, the light mist made conditions too slick to continue, giving Randy Moss Motorsports its first NCWTS win.

TOYOTA TALLIES TOP-10S AT TALLADEGA

Toyota drivers earned a total of eight top-10 finishes in the two NASCAR© races that took place at Talladega Superspeedway over the weekend. Both races ended in dramatic fashion, with flipping race cars and last-lap passes for the win at the 2.66-mile Alabama superspeedway.

TOYOTA RACING WEEKEND RECAP

TOYOTA PRO/CELEBRITY RACE

It was auto racing at its most thrilling as actor Keanu Reeves prevailed over a highly competitive group of stars of film, television and sports to win the Celebrity Category of the 2009 Toyota Pro/Celebrity Race. “The King of the Beach,” six-time Toyota Grand Prix winner Al Unser, Jr., finished first among all drivers and won in the Professional category, followed closely by NASCAR© Camping World Truck Series™ champion Johnny Benson.

Despite enjoying the lead for most of the race, world champion pro skateboarder Danny Way’s hopes of gliding into Victory Circle were dashed when he and Fonzworth Bentley, host of MTV’s “From G’s to Gents,” mixed it up in the ninth lap, giving Reeves the opening he needed to cross the finish line in his race-ready Scion tC only seconds before E! Entertainment Television’s Executive News Editor Ken Baker and comedian Carlos Mencia.

NHRA

Mogan Lucas - NHRA Toyota-supported Top Fuel racer Morgan Lucas finally earned his breakthrough first pro career victory at the rain-delayed NHRA Southern Nationals.

In the first Top Fuel final in years between drivers who had never previously won, the overdue Lucas took the win after a wild, all-over-the-track race against NHRA rookie Spencer Massey. Lucas began drag racing as a teenaged A/Fuel racer who won everything in sight, but since turning pro in 2004, he had been winless.

NASCAR©

The one-mile Phoenix International Raceway track featured a total of five top-10 finishes for Toyota Camry drivers in the two NASCAR© races that took place at the Arizona one-mile oval over the weekend.

In Saturday night’s 312-lap NASCAR© Sprint Cup Series™ (NSCS) race, Denny Hamlin recorded a sixth-place finish and David Reutimann registered an eighth-place result. It was Hamlin’s fourth top-10 of the season and Reutimann’s second top-10 of the 2009 campaign.

In Friday evening’s Nationwide race at Phoenix, three Toyota drivers recorded top-10 finishes.

Jason Leffler, driver of the Braun Racing No. 38 Great Clips Camry, crossed the finish line behind race-winner Greg Biffle. Two spots behind Leffler in fourth-place was 18-year-old Joey Logano in the JGR No. 20 Sport Clips Camry.

Toyota Racing Weekend Recap

NASCAR® Nationwide Series™ --  Kyle Three-Peats at Texas Race

Kyle Busch won his third straight NASCAR® Nationwide Series™ (NNS) race at Texas Motor Speedway on Saturday. Busch started on the pole in the Joe Gibbs Racing No. 18 NOS Energy Drink Toyota Camry and steadily built his lead throughout the early portion of the event. Fighting a loose condition for the majority of the race, Busch exchanged the lead with Jeff Burton near the race’s midpoint. The 23-year-old Las Vegas native kept the car underneath him to take the lead back for good on lap 106, crossing the finish line 1.447 seconds ahead of eventual runner-up Tony Stewart.

NASCAR® Sprint Cup Series™

Four Toyota Camry drivers recorded top-20 finishes in Sunday’s NASCAR® Sprint Cup Series™ (NSCS) race at the 1.5-mile track facility. David Reutimann was the highest-finishing Camry driver, posting an 11th-place result in Michael Waltrip Racing’s (MWR) No. 00 Aaron’s Dream Machine Toyota. Reutimann started on the pole -- the second of his NSCS career -- and led 40 laps early in the 334-lap, 500-mile event won by Jeff Gordon.
